On a chilly Friday in October, AWL joined 21 other teams to participate in the White Lodge Golf day, held at The Royal Ascot Golf Club.
We were pleased to be joined on the day by Stuart Shepherd and Jonathan Bailey from BDA UK, who helped make the day even more fun.
Unfortunately, as a team, we slowly discovered that it was the taking part that counted. In the end, we finished 18th overall!
However, Stuart demonstrated a little more talent than the rest of us. He ended up as our best-placed player on the day, finishing a respectable 17th out of 72.
The event raised over £11,000 on the day, with funds raised on the course and the at the after-dinner auction. It was a fantastic day organised by the White Lodge team, and we’re delighted to assist with their fundraising efforts.
About White Lodge
White Lodge provides services and support that enable those with a range of disabilities, their families and carers to lead fulfilling lives.
They currently support over 2,500 individuals across Surrey and beyond through a diverse range of services for all ages and abilities.
The charity is based on a wonderful two-acre site in Chertsey with great facilities and services for all ages, including: physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, a specialist nursery, hydrotherapy, holiday clubs, personal support in the home, short breaks, fitness and rehabilitation and many activities such as trips out, art, baking, swimming, and much more.
It costs over £2.5 million a year, and the costs are not fully met by statutory funding, so the charity relies on voluntary donations to maintain vital services.
